Charanga Agozá

Charanga is a term given to traditional ensembles of Cuban dance music. They made Cuban dance music popular in the 1940s and their music consisted of heavily son-influenced material, performed on European instruments such as violin and flute by a Charanga orchestra. (Chomsky, Aviva (2004). The Cuba Reader: History, Culture, Politics.)

Madison's Charanga Agozá was formed in fall of 2009 and gave its premiere performance at the Majestic Theatre for Latin Fest II, November 25th. This group consists of the traditional flute and violin, typical Latin music instruments; congas, timbales, piano and bass, soaring vocals, and the contemporary addition of a trombone. Hire us for your next dance or social event!
